2010 movie list!

Early Happy New Year, everyone! In time to kick off 2010, here's a list of next year's movies that I'm most looking forward to, by date, and their trailers! :D

1) Alice in Wonderland (March 5th)
It's a new take on the old story, as Alice returns to Wonderland in her teens. Tim Burton is directing, so get ready for Johnny Depp, some trippiness, and the awesomeness that is Danny Elfman's music.

2) Clash of the Titans (March 26th)
I've not kept up with news on this, but the recently-released trailer looks fricken', fricken' awesome. It stars Sam Worthington as Perseus, as well as many, many mythological beasts. Check it out below:

3) A Nightmare on Elm Street (April 30th)
The only reason this is on my list is because Jackie Earle Haley takes on the stripes and knife-claws, and because I'm curious as to whether Freddy Krueger was wronged, or is actually a child molester / murderer like in the original films. Trailer below:

4) Iron Man 2 (May 7th)
The first one was only good because Robert Downey Jr. was in it, and I'm only excited about IM2 because of that little scene after the credits in the first movie. War Machine looks fantastic, and I can't wait to see whether they set anything up for The Avengers that'll be out in 2012.

5) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (May 28th)
Pushed back a year, I kinda lost interest till I saw the trailer, which looks seriously cool. I'm still not used to Jake Gyllenhaal with an English accent, but his 'jumping from one building top to another' sure brings back memories. All we need now are wall spikes.

6) The A-Team (June 11th)
This movie has been making the 200- movie list rounds since the beginning of time, and it was only this year they'd manage to get the director and cast. Starring Liam Neeson (as John "Hannibal" Smith), Bradley Cooper (Templeton "Faceman" Peck), Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (Mr. T B.A. Baracus) and Sharlton Copley ("Howling Mad" Murdock), no trailer has been released yet, so enjoy this picture below:

7) Toy Story 3 (June 18th)
The toys and their voices (pretty much, R.I.P Jim Varney) are back, and I got all nostalgic and teary just from watching the teaser. New and full trailer below!

8) The Sorceror's Apprentice (July 16th)
If you've seen Fantasia, you already know the story, except that it's now set in modern-day New York, and has Alfred Molina playing the bad guy. It also gives Nicolas Cage another excuse to use the same hairstyle he's been using the past 10 movies or so.
[Looks like I'm more excited than I thought. My apologies for putting the Toy Story 3 up again. Below is the correct trailer.]

9) The Expendables (August 13th)
Featuring many, many action stars, this movie about a group of mercenaries is also the umpteenth movie Jet Li and Jason Statham has starred together (I kid, it's only the third). The Expendables is written and directed by Sly Stallone, and so long it's not another Rambo or Rocky sequel, it looks VERY promising. And why did I only find out now that Statham's English and not Australian? Damn, I'm losing it.

10) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (November 19th, 2010)
The beginning of the end, though the seventh Potter movie is adapted from the seventh book, it's not the last, 'cuz they split the book into two. Blasted Hollywood execs. Anyway, Part 2 has a release date of July 11th, 2011, so at least we won't have to wait long to finish the series. As of now, no trailers have been released yet.

Well that's it for me. Ten movies to look out for this year, and if anything else interesting comes along (as in, trailers), I'll be adding to this list. See you on the other side, folks! :)

Sorceror's Apprentice trailer!

Starring Nicolas Cage as the Sorceror and Jay Baruchel as, well, the Apprentice, the movie is a modern-day retelling of the famed Fantasia segment, which in turn is based on the poem by Goethe.

It looks pretty cool, though since it's a summer movie, that's pretty much a given.

Enjoy :)

The Sorceror's Apprentice will open July 16th, 2010.

Prince of Persia trailer!

The trailer is finally out, after many, many behind-the-scenes commentaries (of which most of the scenes are repeated) from Jerry Bruckheimer or something. Anyway, it looks great, and the jumping-from-one-building-to-the-other scenes bring back memories.

Sigh.

All we need now is a grey-stoned dungeon with pits and a bunch of retracting spikes at the bottom. Plus, turbans and many poisonspotions.

And also, they all have English accents! I have no idea why I find it weird that Jake Gyllenhaal doesn't sound American, I just do!

Oh well, enjoy! :)

Toy Story 3 TRAILER!!

Embedding's disabled, so I can only provide the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhmdsXBq6-Q

The quality isn't very good, either, so when a proper one comes along, I'll update and embed ^^

Elm Street trailer!

What caught my eye was the beginning of the trailer. Woulda preferred it if they didn't show Freddy's face at the end of it.

Michael Jackson's This Is It trailer.

R.I.P. Michael. You are our Elvis.

Avatar teaser trailer!

I don't know why they call it a teaser, seeing that it's about two minutes long, and could definitely serve as a REAL trailer, but here it is below:

Looks more high-end videogame to me, but based on what I can gather from the early seconds of the trailer, the storyline seems interesting. Anyway, click on the trailer above if you want to see the bigger version (i.e., the one on YouTube with the options).

Avatar opens December 16, 2009.

Iron Man 2 Comic-Con footage!

In which there are many awesome scenes to behold! Plus, Garry Shandling gets work!

The sound is lousy, but Whiplash looks awesome.

Ton o' updates!

[Okay, two.]

Never fear, true believers, this blog is not yet dead. I'd bore you with WHY I haven't been updating, but eh, I'll spare you the deets.

[It involved an ass-ton of overtime. Sorry peeps.]

First up, A TRAILER:

One thing I don't get is how they always associate eternal youth along with Dorian's name. Eternal beauty, yes, but think about it. Just because he doesn't age physically doesn't mean that it's the same internally. I mean, he could have liver failure and cancer and all that crap and still die, but he'd still look a healthy 20 years of age. And the 'immortality' argument can't be proven, because the book took place over a span of twenty years. Hardly enough time.

That said, Colin Firth doesn't look malevolent enough to be the tarnisher of souls, but I guess that's the idea.

Dorian Gray opens 9th September 2009.
[If you flip the date upside down, you get 6-6-6. Oooo...]

Secondly (and I can't find this on any other Internet source but the one I saw it from, which is here), it seems that Timur Bekmambetov has given up on Twilight Watch, the third of the Night Watch trilogy based on the popular Russian book series of the same name. He will, instead, be doing a sequel for Wanted.

I don't know when Wanted 2 will open.

I did not see Wanted, so I can't bitchcomment about whether it's a lousy decision or not, but I'm disappointed that Twilight Watch won't be made. I've only seen Day Watch (couldn't find Night Watch), and although the storyline was VERY complicating for me, the visuals were simply gorgeous, and so amazing that my tiny TV did not do it justice.

[That's right, folks, I saw Day Watch ON PAY-TELEVISION. I am officially LOUSY.]

It sucks that the third won't be made, though apparently the third was going to be filmed in English, compared to the previous two which were in their native Russian, so it's probably for the better.
Really, they speak Russian for two movies and alluva sudden the characters switch to English. Ridiculous.

Anyway, look out for my long-overdue review on X-Men Origins: Wolverine (FINALLY!) some time tonight / next day, and the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra next weekend!
[That is, if tix aren't sold out :P]

Alice in Wonderland teaser trailer!

And it looks awesome! For a teaser, it's pretty long, and shows quite a bit of the movie (as in, not the same thing *cough*LastAirbender*cough*). A bit too much emphasis on the Mad Hatter here, although that could be because Johnny Depp is a big star / totally thick with Tim Burton. I hope that won't be the case in the movie.

[Isn't Tweedledee and Tweedledum ADORABLE?! xD Creepy, yes, but...]

And it IS on YouTube!

The Last Airbender teaser trailer, that is:

Visually, it looks good. As expected for a big-budgeted Hollywood movie. And, we can see his arrow.

The trailer looks promising to people like us.

It seems accurate.

And that's what I hate about the trailer. Because based on production photos, it's far from accurate.

I used to go around telling people that AvatarThe Last Airbender is like a Chinese kung-fu movie, except that it's animated series and the characters speak good English. I mean, who doesn't love an old-fashioned Chinese martial arts movie, right? But with this movie coming along, everyone will come to know of the MOVIE first, rather than the original animated series. And there's nothing like lousy adaptations to deter you from delving into the original.

[Or misleading adaptations. *cough*Golden Compass*cough*]

Sure, the current idea for the movie has the potential to be a huge summer blockbuster. If the entire concept for this franchise had just randomly come to M. Night Shyamalan in a dream or something a few years ago, provided there's no twist, he'd be sitting pretty, and his film-making skills wouldn't be made fun of in discussion forums. Yeah, white people saving yellows from brown baddies is offensive, but it wouldn't be THIS offensive. I'd just be avoiding the movie, instead of ranting about every other production photo that's coming out, or blogging about it every other post.

But that's not the case here. The movie is an ADAPTATION, which means that it's BASED on something, in this case, the Nickelodeon animated series. And to drastically change important aspects of the source material, loosely-based adaptation or no, that's a major faux pas in my book.

[That's despite my puristic beliefs]

The potential for TLA to be a hit on the big-screen is definitely there; fans can see it, the people involved with the movie can see it (heck, Paramount is calling it, "Their Harry Potter") , even NON-FANS can see it.
And the fact that Hollywood is going about it the wrong way is what really pisses me off.

Crash, Bang, BOOM!

New Transformers 2 trailer looks fantastic, by the way.

Oh, and highlight below for spoilers:
Megatron really IS back.

New Transformers 2 clip!

In which Sam (Shia LaBeouf) tells Bumblebee that he can't take him along to college. And where Bumblebee cries. Adorably. Like in a Japanese animé.

[HE'S TOO CUTE. Bumblebee, I mean.]

We also get to see some of the other Bots in the movie, although for the life of me, I can't really recognise any of them. Except for Optimus Prime, of course.

EDIT: The Vimeo vid apparently doesn't exist anymore, so the only one I could find on YouTube shares its slot with the Halloween 2 trailer. For the record, the Transformers 2 clip begins around the 2:29 mark.

Enjoy :)

Quidditch makes a return!

Hopefully.

But it sure looks that way in the new Harry Potter 6 trailer. I've always liked how they made Apparating more cool (very X2 Nightcrawler), although it'd make ambushing difficult since your target would see your BLACK trail-smoke coming miles away.

Also, Helena Bonham-Carter seems to confirmed her Bellatrix Lestrange signature pose.

Anyways, enjoy! :D

[I SERIOUSLY have to read this book again. I can't recognise half of what's going on in the trailer.]

New Up full trailer!

[Look at how cute Russell is... xD]

Latest Harry Potter trailer!

This one came out a few days ago. I don't remember the bridge part, but then again, I haven't really read the sixth book in a while. Oh well, enjoy :)

Upcoming movies for summer!

Now that I've seen Watchmen, I can devote my Googleefforts on other upcoming movies. Here are the ones I'm having an eye out for:

1) X-Men Origins: Wolverine

2) Star Trek

3) Angels & Demons

4) Up

5) Transformers 2: Revenge of The Fallen

6) The A-Team (?)

7) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Kicking it off is the final trailer for X-Men O below. Expect more news on those movies (when available) in the days to come! :)

New Watchmen TV spots!

Don't worry, they don't really spoil the film. Most of the scenes have already been used in the previously-released trailers.

Transformers 2 trailer!!

Looks awesome! June 26th24th, here we come! :D
